Microsoft IPTV

Om breaks down the latest developments in MSFT IPTV.

From the post:

"I visited the Microsoft TV executives earlier this year and got some demos. While it worked in the “setting” the word on the street is that the scaling is still a work in progress. Ed Graczyk, director of marketing and communications for Microsoft TV recently said: “The second half of the year is when deployments will really take off.”

Microsoft is going all out at TelecomNEXT with the entire IPTV executive team including Robbie Bach, making their presence felt in the Sin City. Bach is infact delivering a keynote and it will be fun, because he is pretty good. Of course since this Mix 06 thing is going on, maybe Chairman Bill will pop in? I expect a big big announcement from Microsoft."

From the press release:

"Deutsche Telekom AG has reached agreement with Microsoft Corp. on an alliance to deliver Internet Protocol television (IPTV) services to consumers across Germany. The contract will enable Deutsche Telekom to deliver next-generation television, as well as complementary interactive services and a range of entertainment products over its VDSL broadband networks.

Deutsche Telekom will use the Microsoft TV IPTV Edition software platform to offer these services. Microsoft will support Deutsche Telekom with joint marketing, in addition to marketing by Deutsche Telekom, to help develop IPTV in Germany. The agreement reached with Deutsche Telekom is Microsoft's largest IPTV contract in Europe to date and its second largest worldwide."
