MSNBC Mobile Ad Supported News
From the MSNBC.com site:
The launch of MSNBC.com Mobile beta enables you to stay informed and entertained with your wireless device!
"MSNBC.com has launched a beta news service after teaming with Microsoft and Action Engine, MSNBC.com Mobile. The beta service is a free ad-supported one (well, you have to pay for data, of course) that requires an application download from the MSNBC.com Mobile site.
“The goal of this program is to deliver the MSNBC.com experience without penalizing consumers with yet another subscription fee,” said Catherine Captain, vice president of marketing for MSNBC.com in a press release. “The consumer research we collect from this beta launch will give us valuable insight on how to effectively migrate advertising-supported content from computer to mobile device.”
From Clickz:
"MSNBC.com will sell the ad inventory, which consists of :15 video pre-roll spots and banner-like display ads. Windows Mobile has signed on as exclusive sponsor of the service during a three-month beta, after which it will be made available to all advertisers."
